What we do:

Vision Stewardship- Upholding the goals of a mission-driven land holder throughout the process of planning and development of affordable housing and associated community services.

Project Management – Overseeing timelines, tasks, and coordination from concept to completion.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement – Facilitating inclusive, transparent dialogue to align development with local needs and values.

Partnership Building – Connecting landholders, public agencies, developers, and funders to form mission-aligned teams.

Affordable Housing Strategy – Guiding site feasibility, financing pathways, and policy alignment to support long-term housing affordability.

Why we do it:

Sunstone’s founders were participants in an Ashland School District committee charged with finding strategies to implement toward the goal of increasing enrollment. The committee determined that rising housing costs are a significant barrier to families remaining in or moving to Ashland, and drawing from examples of other school district housing initiatives, chose to pursue a deeper understanding of what that could look like for ASD.

Thus, Sunstone Housing Collaborative was established as a not-for-profit 501c3 for the purpose of exploring the feasibility of developing affordable housing on district-owned land. The nonprofit is entirely grant funded, and our work is provided at no cost to the land holder. We have six board members and an executive director who are all personally driven in different ways toward helping to support equity and opportunity through housing. 

We have developed relationships and partnerships with many local organizations and individuals also invested in housing justice.  We recognize that each project's needs are different, so communication early and often is crucial to establishing trust and understanding.

We recognize the challenges that are presented when a person is without safe, reliable shelter and the cascade of difficulties that can happen when that lack is reoccurring. Sunstone is determined to build and maintain community partnerships that combine the resources necessary to create a place that houses individuals and families in comfort, stability and beauty.
